Scuba Schools International
Scuba Schools International has a long and rich history. Since 1970, Scuba Schools International and its innovative Dealers and Instructors have made numerous contributions to the art and science of dive education. The cumulative result is a very personal and highly effective method of teaching that produces comfortable, confident divers. Over the years, we've developed precisely-written course materials that define our personalized way of learning.
International Scope
In 1983, with the opening of SSI Southeast Asia, Scuba Schools International began to take shape as a worldwide network of Regional Centers that today covers the globe. Scuba Schools International's 21 Regional Centers serve the needs of divers, instructors and dealers, and are structured so that they can give special attention to diving industry issues in their respective region. Through this international network, hundreds of thousands of people have become comfortable, confident divers and contributed significantly to the development of an organized, global scuba industry.
Merger of SSI and NASDS
In the Spring of 1999, SSI merged with the National Association of Scuba Diving Schools (NASDS) and created a new synergy in the dive industry. The sales and marketing expertise of NASDS, when joined with the renowned educational products of SSI, created a stronger company that is in a better position to serve Dealers, Instructors, and ultimately, Divers.
Serious Diving. Serious Fun.
In 1998, SSI adopted the slogan "serious diving. serious fun." for a multi-faceted marketing program. We loved the slogan because it summed up our attitude about the sport of scuba diving.
SSI's mission is to get people excited about diving as a lifetime of adventure. The key to a lifetime of diving is that people must have fun diving or they will choose to do something else. Our belief is that proper training has a lot to do with fun. We learned long ago that when it comes to diving, Ability + Comfort = FUN!
This is why we take training so seriously; because we take our fun so seriously. And that is why SSI Divers have such a longstanding reputation for being confident, competent, comfortable, outstanding divers--and they have the most fun too!

React Right Course
React Right has been sanctioned by Scuba Schools International as its first aid provider. This means React Right training will be offered to all SSI Dive Leaders.
Scuba Schools International is the second largest certification agency in the recreational scuba diving industry, with about 2000 affiliated dive facilities around the world.
In the past, Scuba Schools International has offered first aid training or supported training through various agencies such as Red Cross and most recently the National Safety Council (NSC). In October 2001, SSI began offering React Right to its affiliates because of the benefits offered to its affiliates. The cost of React Right materials is reasonable, which means affordable courses can be offered to the public, and the instructor still makes money. It is also very affordable for any SSI Dive Leader to become a React Right Instructor.
What really sets React Right apart is home study and coaching. With home study, students can review the academic material at their own pace using a programmed learning system. When they are ready, students attend a “coaching” session with a React Right Instructor to practice first aid skills. Coaching sessions are fun, active learning environments that emphasize skill application and repetition to develop ability and comfort. Students and Instructors save considerable time, while learning and retention are enhanced. Moreover, React Right classes can be adapted to anyone’s busy schedule.

Even more...
Dive Control Specialist
SSI Dive Control Specialist is SSI's initial dive leadership level and is considered by many as the "fun" leadership rating. That's because you can do more than any other entry-level dive leader. You can do more because you receive both dive master and assistant instructor training in the SSI Dive Control Specialist course. With other agencies, these courses are separate.
As a Dive Control Specialist you can:
You will study advanced physics, physiology and decompression theory. You'll practice advanced rescue techniques, fine-tune your diving skills and learn the basics of teaching. Plus, there's a high demand for SSI Dive Control Specialists at retail shops and exotic resorts.
Open Water Instructor
Learn to be a Scuba Instructor the "SSI Way." Most instructor programs focus only on teaching diving. However, most dive businesses require much more of instructors than merely teaching. The SSI Instructor Training Course (ITC) prepares you to become an active member of the scuba industry, a successful educator, and a valuable dive business employee.
Your training includes:
Why SSI Instructors are More Marketable
SSI Instructors possess business knowledge that instructors from other agencies don't. The expanded course content of the SSI ITC gives you an edge over "teaching only" programs and makes you a much more valuable, well-rounded employee.
SSI Instructors represent the best of both worlds. You are trained to use the award-winning SSI Teaching System and you are trained to be a skilled educator.
SSI Instructors are able to conduct the Universal Referral Program. This program allows you to complete referral dives through six different agencies: IDEA, NASDS, NAUI, PDIC, SSI and the YMCA. This is particularly valuable to resorts that receive customers affiliated with various certification agencies.
What Else Can You Teach?
SSI Diver Certification Cards:
Whether you are a newly certified Open Water Diver or a Platinum Pro5000 Diver, your "license to dive" is your certification card (C-Card), so it's a very important document, on which your name, photo, dives, level, and the name of your Scuba Diving School appear. The SSI Diver Regional Facility in Spain will send you in 2 weeks your Diver Certification Card together with your Certificate.
